Governor Proclaims October as Cooperative Month in Iowa…….

Ames, Iowa, October 2, 2009 – In recognition of the contribution to local communities made by Iowa cooperatives, Governor Chet Culver has proclaimed October as Cooperative Month in Iowa.
In his proclamation Governor Culver recognized that cooperatives in Iowa generate significant income, employment, revenue and often function as engines of economic growth for local communities and the economy of Iowa.  Cooperatives operate in over 990 communities, employ over 10,000 people, have over 1.3 million member owners and pay over 40 million in property taxes locally.
Cooperatives in Iowa include grain and farm supply cooperatives, petroleum cooperatives, rural electric cooperatives, rural telephone cooperatives, grain and dairy processing cooperatives, producer food cooperatives, cooperative grocery stores, credit unions and more.  Nationwide more than 40,000 cooperatives operate in virtually every industry.
The community commitment of cooperatives enhances economic opportunity and improves quality of life in Iowa’s cities, towns and rural areas.  During the month of October, cooperatives of all types and from all industries reaffirm their member-owned mission, commitment to community, and pledge continued active involvement in the communities in which their members live and work.

OCTOBER IS ALSO PORK MONTH…….October is also celebrated as being Pork Month.  Its been a rough go recently for pork producers but hopefully this cycle will come to an end soon.  Over the decades pork producers have purchased hundreds of thousands of tons of feed from FSC.  We thank those producers for their patronage and the affordable and delicious meals they have placed on our tables over the years

WE HAVE A WINNER!

Recently FSC held a promotion to gather email addresses from FSC customers so we could notify them of timely FSC news, promotions, etc.  Customers who submitted their email address were then eligible to enter a drawing for a Dell Notebook.  Pictured below, is General Manager Gary Jahn presenting Bonnie and Keith Fiscus of Kirkman, the lucky winners, with their new computer.  Congratulations to Bonnie and Keith and thanks to everyone who participated!
