Fall

October is National Pork Month....

Which was declared when the Iowa Pork Producers Association’s Board of Directors passed a resolution declaring October as Iowa Pork Month in 1962. Here are some facts about Pork, the Other White Meat:

• Pork is the world’s most widely consumed meat.
• Iowa is the nation’s leader in pork production. Iowa farmers sell more than 25 million hogs each year, which represents one-fourth of total U.S. production.
• The saying “living high on the hog” started among enlisted men in the U.S. Army, who received shoulder and leg cuts of pork while officers received the top loin cuts. The phrase came to mean living well.

FSC uses hundreds of thousands of bushels of corn each year to provide feed to many of the hogs in this area. FSC is proud to support our men and women serving our country. We support them and the pork industry not only in October, but all year long.

Harvest is Here

Harvest is fast approaching. We will soon be working many hours to try and get this crop harvested and put away safely. Farm Service Cooperative will be taking both corn and soybeans at Denison and Harlan this fall.  Click on the GRAIN tab on the left to view all the grain policies and discounts available.  This will be our second harvest where we will be working in tandem with FAC from Arcadia. Just a reminder that all grain checks will come from the office in Arcadia. Producer can sign up for a direct deposit to their account to speed the process up.

Here’s hoping that everybody has a safe harvest and that you have high yields if you are also raising a crop!!

BOARD TOUR

Every year the FSC Board of Directors takes a tour of all FSC and Leinen facilities to inspect facilities and equipment as well as get a chance to visit with branch employees. Below, Mark Martens, Oakland Branch Manager, discusses the fleet of tender trucks at Oakland.
