FSC FERTILIZER BUILDING PROGRESS
December 2011

The walls for the microbins have been poured and work continues on the walls for the alley.

Anhydrous ammonia storage tanks from Harlan and Tennant were moved to Defiance on December 5. The risers will be installed next along with the plumbing.

As of November 23 concrete has been poured on all flat surfaces. This picture shows the pit in the alley of the building. A front-end loader will bring product out of the bins shown on the left and drop it in this pit. From there it will be conveyed to the overheard bins and scale in the load-out driveway. During the month of December the building walls will be poured with wood construction scheduled to begin in January.

Half of the floor for the storage bins have been poured. Rebar is in place for the walls. The goal is to have all of the remaining floor, receiving pit, alley, and loadout driveway poured by Friday, November 18.

Electrical lines have been trenched and brought to the location of the control room.

The floors have been poured for the microbins.

Longfellow Foundations of Hutchinson, Kansas is installing the concrete pilings which are necessary for this size of building in the terrain of southwest Iowa. With no major breakdowns or inclement weather they should complete their portion of the work by Friday, October 7th.

A crew from Stueve Construction of Algona, Iowa forms up the pit in the alley of the building to receive concrete.

Western Engineering of Harlan continues to work on the road system on the property which will provide access to and from the fertilizer building.
On August 22, FSC began the construction of a 12,000 ton dry fertilizer building at Defiance. This structure will be considered a hub, so any FSC branch can pull product from the facility if necessary.
As FSC’s business has grown, it was necessary to give consideration to this project as no new storage had been built within FSC for over 30 years. Eliminating the need to bring product in during the season will add to the speed and efficiency of fertilizer distribution to FSC members.
Estimated completion time of the project is March 17, 2012. Please continue to check our website for construction progress.
