Winterizing Steps for Machinery & Storage Tanks
In order to prevent fuel problems in the upcoming cool/cold season, proper preparation NOW is the key.
The fuel is not the problem when you “gel up”. The “other stuff” is the problem: If you do not drain tanks of excess moisture; the fuel filter will trap the moisture, freeze it and plugging will result.
The following list includes the basic winterizing steps to get all of your machinery ready for use in the cold season:
- Change the oil and fuel filters
- Drain moisture from storage and vehicle tanks
- Top off with Ruby Fieldmaster (Dyed) or Roadmaster (Clear)
- Check the cooling system
- Properly lubricate or grease equipment with Cenex lubricants
The Energy Department has started blending fuel to a 70% (Ruby or Roadmaster) / 30% (#1) blend.
